The Dominion theatre was originally constructed in Camden in the West End in 1928 with the intention of hosting live shows. Later it was converted to allow the showing of films as well.
The South Pacific, Porgy and Bess and Cleopatra all had showings at the Dominion theatre, but it was the showing of The Sound of Music which established the theatre as one of the theatrical homes of musicals in the West-End. Other great and famous musicals have since graced the stage of the Dominion theatre including Grease and We Will Rock You.
Although the Dominion theatre has been through several periods of renovations it has still maintained its original lighting and art-deco interior design.
The Dominion theatre has one of the largest seating capacities of the West-End and is able to seat 2,163 people on two levels – the stalls and the circle.
The Dominion theatre has wheelchair access and disabled toilet facilities for those that need it. There is a wheelchair lifting platform for easy access to the stalls and the Dominion theatre also has a box which is available for disabled patrons with electric wheelchairs.
